I was going to name this shot “smog” because the definition is smoke and fog. We were experiencing a lot of smoke from western fires, plus we had the fog created by the surrounding geysers.But it just did the image a disservice.
We did run into one problem photographing the hot springs. Early in the morning the temperature was pretty low (we were at 7000-8000 feet). That temperature difference created a lot of excess fog and made it hard to even see the hot springs.
The early morning light filtering through the fog and trees give this image a ethereal feel that I love.
